Kristen Cogdill
Kristen Cogdill is a second-grade teacher at Cullowhee Valley School in Cullowhee, Jackson County, part of Jackson County Schools, where she teaches all subject areas. She has 15 years of experience in elementary education, serving students across multiple districts in Western North Carolina, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University. Kristen is passionate about teaching the whole child and believes strongly in experiential, hands-on learning as a foundation for deep understanding. She is committed to ensuring that all students in North Carolina have access to a high-quality education that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and pride in their roots. As a Learning Happens Here Teacher Ambassador, she feels honored and excited to collaborate with fellow educators and is especially interested in expanding access to enriching experiences like those offered by the NC Aquarium and NC Zoo. Outside the classroom, Kristen enjoys hiking in the beautiful North Carolina mountains with her husband and children.
