Social Studies Teacher, JD Clement Early College

Jon Tyus is a Social Studies teacher in Durham Public Schools at JD Clement Early College HS on the campus of NCCU. He currently teaches World History, Civics, and Economics and Personal Finance to 9-11th graders, where he is focused on making sure that students can be confident, knowledgeable citizens of the world through their study of history and the like. For nearly 20 years he has worked to build relationships with students, and to impart both big ideas and fascinating details in social studies. He is thrilled to become a Teacher Ambassador so that he can bring the beauty of NC’s history and culture to his students through visits to historical sites and various cultural events. When he can squeeze out some free time, Jon is often cheering on the Tar Heels or doing anything related to music, and of course, spending quality time with his amazing wife and daughter.
